Project 1: Rotary Club of Patong Beach
CHF 45,500

The Rotary Club of Patong Beach provided emergency aid in the immediate aftermath of the disaster. It helped to ease the suffering of those affected and to give them hope for the future. See also www.rotarypatong.org. The following projects were put in place:

- Emergency aid in the form of food, water, accommodation, clothing and hygiene supplies.
- Regular financial assistance to needy families until they were again able to provide for themselves during a maximum of 8 months.
- Assistance in re-establishing small businesses (purchase of fishing nets, farming equipment, fishing boats etc.).
- Water processing equipment for providing clean drin- king water in schools, day centers and orphanages.
- Purchase of school uniforms, books, writing materials etc., which many families can no longer afford and therefore no longer send their children to school (classes are free).
- Construction of a day center for the children of poor families in Patong Beach, so that the children receive one warm meal every day and are looked after while their parents are at work.
- Sponsorship of the completely destroyed village of Ao Khoei in Pang Nga province which has now been rebuilt under the name Ban Pak Trium (provision of food, water processing equipment etc.)
